Hi REBTmates!

Please visit our fabulous new REBT Discussion Forum! at  http://www.REBTinfo.com/forum/

For those of you who are interested in REBT-CBT, et al, but have no interest in discussion about the website itself, you needed read any further.  Just go to the forum, signup for a membership (sorry), and start generating some chatter.  Thank you.

However, for those who are interested in website stuffs, let me explain that it has been a lengthy and frustrating process trying to get a workable forum. Our first strategy was to add a forum that could work seamlessly inside this WordPress blog. One, called SimplePress was really sweet and very attractive.  It was quite proprietary and complicated to work on the admin side.  I suppose I could have gotten up to speed with that, and it would have worked fine if it had actually worked.  However, it was so full of bugs and conflicted with other components of the blog to the extent that we decided to abandon it.  Our appreciation and apologies to the several of you go gave it a try.   Then we went with something called BB Press, which was less annoying, but so boring and emaciated that no one bother to use it!   Strike two!

However, good things come in 3’s (I guess), and I am very pleased to announce that we have switched to the SMF (Simple Machines Forum) software, which is what we should have done in the beginning.  However, the downside is that the forum and the blog exist as separate installations which means, sorry to say, that members will have to have two accounts; one for this blog and another for the forum. Also, I am sorry to say  that new members will have to go through a little “capcha” security check in order to submit their first five posts.  A pain in the ass, admittedly, but absolutely essential in order to keep the forum free of SPAM and “trolls” and other evildoers.  Annoying, but certainly not the end of the world, and considering the many features and benefits of the SMF format, well-worth it. Moreover, I have several of these forums running elsewhere, they are really sweet, and I know how to make them sing!

Why a forum?  I don’t think I can answer that question yet.  I am “old school” and still in the process of learning what the roles of blogs, social media such as facebook, and the traditional discussion forums are and how they can best be integrated and used together . . . or if they even need to be.  I have only just gotten involved with facebook this month, and it is quite an involvement and learning curve.

Meanwhile, I am hoping that our new discussion forum with feel like a safe(r) place for you guys to hang out, share issues, ask and answer questions, give and get help, and generally forum a stronger sense of intimacy and community that we have been able to with the blog format alone.

Typical of my unprofessional style, the forum still isn’t quite “ready for prime time,” but it is up, running, 100% functional.  I would like all of you to have a looksee, sign up, and start generating some activity, please.  Anything about REBT-CBT or the larger areas of psychology, General Semantics, philosophy, self-help, personal growth and so on is most welcome.

Naturally, especially in this early phase, I value your comments, observations, suggestions and constructive criticism.

See ya!
