Gary Emery, Ph.D., received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked with Aaron T. Beck, M.D., in helping to develop cognitive therapy. He is the author of five previous books on the subject,including A New Beginning, 1981; and Own Your Own Life, 1982, and coauthor with Dr. Beck of Cognitive Theory of Depression, 1981, and Anxiety Disorders and Phobias (1985). He received his master?s degree in counseling psychology from Creighton University and bachelor?s and master?s degrees in sociology from California State University at Long Beach. He lives in Los Angeles, where he is director of the Los Angeles Center for Cognitive Therapy and assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at UCLA. |
