Professional Half-Day Workshop

Evidence-Based Parenting Interventions:
The Role of REBT/CBT

Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) are utilized with parents to assist in changing unhealthy beliefs and expectations about their children and themselves as parents. This workshop will teach strategies for increasing positive behaviors in children through working with parents. This workshop will focus on research supported parenting programs to increase positive behavior in children as well as how and when REBT strategies can be incorporated into treatment. Techniques will focus on the promotion of effective parenting emotional self-management to reduce unhealthy negative emotions interfering with implementing effective parenting strategies.

In this intense three day practicum, participants will learn the Rational-Emotive & Cognitive Behavior theory of emotional disturbance and change by leading REBT practitioners. Strategies for identifying and challenging clients’ dysfunctional beliefs and constructing more adaptive beliefs, emotions and behaviors will be a focus of the weekend. REBT’s conceptualization of emotions and Common Errors new REBT therapists make will also be presented. Participants will have the opportunity to practice their RE & CBT skills in small group supervision and receive immediate feedback from an experienced certified REBT supervisor.
