Cognitive Distancing in Stoicism

Stoic philosophy is among the many influences Drs. Ellis and Beck drew upon in developing REBT and CBT. However, there is a conundrum or a seeming conundrum between REBT’s emphasis on “disputing” and the stoic preference for “distancing.” In this sense, stoic philosophy may have more in common with third wave behavior therapies (ACT, et al)  it does to REBT.
