REBT (according to Ellis) posits that inappropriate negative emotions come from one type of irrational thinking . . .

. . . DEMANDS:  Global rating (of oneself, others, and the universe), awfulizing, and low frustration tolerance are all derivatives of musts and shoulds.

Operationally it looks like this: “I absolutely must do well and get approval, otherwise it’s awful, I can’t stand it, and I’m no good.”

Other REBT authors have posited your way of classifying this, but it’s a category error and Al has not done so that I know of. If you have a citation of his to the contrary I would be interested.”
